Stalker (1979)

Near a gray and unnamed city is the Zone, an alien place guarded by barbed wire and soldiers. Over his wife's numerous objections, a man rises in the dead of night: he's a stalker, one of a handful who have the mental gifts (and who risk imprisonment) to lead people into the Zone to the Room, a place where one's secret hopes come true. That night, he takes two people into the Zone: a popular writer who is burned out, cynical, and questioning his genius; and a quiet scientist more concerned about his knapsack than the journey. In the deserted Zone, the approach to the Room must be indirect. As they draw near, the rules seem to change and the stalker faces a crisis.
I have heard the name of Stalker - a 1979 made movie based on the novel "Roadside Picnic ", for a long while. Finally yesterday night, I had chance to watch it. Stalker is directed by famous Russian film director Andrei Tarkovsky. He is also an actor, writer and opera director. His movie is based on  the science fiction novel of Boris and Arkady Strugatsky brothers.

The book cover of Roadside Picnic

In the middle of a restricted Zone where it is beleived there is a room that makes all wishes come true..  And a journey of three characters to that room. I have to say Stalker is much more than today's science fiction movies. It has a deep philosophy beneath and bringing you to a journey in your own soul and mind while watching it. Actually the trip through the Zone is a trip to your own world. The movie goes slow and it is a long movie but every scene in the movie is just beautiful and working on your feelings. Also its dark and depressive ambience catching your soul. I am impressed with the movie alot. And I decided to get Roadside Picnic book as soon as possible.

Stalker is a must-watched movie

There are a lot of things can be told about Stalker but I do not want to give synopsises about the movie. As a result; Stalker is one of the masterpieces of cinema and I highly recommend you to watch it. After watching the movie, you are just going to confess; "Oh ! I have never watched a real movie before !" .This movie is not for people who love to watch popular Hollywood movies. This movie has a deep, intellectual perspective and a real cinema theme. Every frame of the movie is deep and beautiful. So you may find it heavy, boring or depressive if you are not into these kind of movies.
My personal for the movie is : 8.5/10
